Listener-Supported Heartland Public Radio now has a brand new Android app. Designed and donated by a dedicated listener, Shawn, in Alabama, USA, this app fixes all of the problems that made the previous version basically unusable.
This new app is available on Google Play right now! If you already have the HPR app installed, simply update it. If you no longer have (or never had) the HPR app installed, you can easily install it now on your Android device via Google Play.
Fixed:
*This app will now play in the background after your phone/tablet’s screen goes to sleep. The previous app would stop unless you manually disabled battery optimization for the app.
*This new app will work on Android 17, which is the newest version of Android.
New:
You can now easily enjoy listening to Ken Hippler’s “Good ‘N Country” on demand right in the app!!! It’s no secret: Ken’s show is an absolute treasure for true fans of the vintage sound of Classic Country music, including newer music that preserves the traditional sound. You can now enjoy over 6 years of archives of “Good ‘N Country” right in the palm of your hand. The new app allows you to scrub through any episode you wish, pause, resume, etc.
Improved:
The now-playing album art is pulled directly from services like Apple Music and Deezer, which should help improve the accuracy of what is displayed.
Coming Soon: Android Auto
Shawn is working on integrating Android Auto into the new HPR Android app. After adequate testing, this feature will become available via an app update.
Heartland Public Radio would like to take a moment to thank Shawn in Alabama for his dedication, which prompted him to take action and create this new Android app! After fielding dozens of complaints from longtime listeners who admittedly have never donated a dime to support our broadcasts, this is a much-needed boost of encouragement for all of us here at HPR! Thank you so much, Shawn!!! Folks: This. Is. How. Public. Radio. Works.
